The Complementary Study

Association between Nosocomial Infection Rates and Patient Care Quality Parameters

Background Objectives Methods

The HELICS Complementary Study will investigate the quality of practices in health services in Europe. The first step will be to analyse the quality of some chosen healthcare parameters in European hospitals. The association between Nosocomial Infection rates and the patient care quality parameters will then be investigated. The investigation will consist of two components (the Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Site Infections) and for each of these a questionnaire will be completed by each of the participating surgical wards and intensive care units;

ICU Questionnaire SSI Questionnaire
Provision of data by hospitals will carried out anonymously. Questionnaires are currently being translated into the respective national languages and will be formally issued to participating hospitals later this year. The questionnaires are also being validated by the European Society of Intensive Care Medecine, the Surgical Infection Society of Europe and the European Hip Society.
